YOGA AND HEALING

“Turning your ashtanga practice into a healing practice”

Saturday 19th of Mars 2022 kl 08.30 – 12.30

Approaching your ashtanga yoga practice from a place of pain

What properties does a healing practice have? How can we be attentive and listen to the signals of the body?

An experience of pain in our yoga practice can be strongly discouraging, and even make people quit yoga altogether. Let’s shine some light on this important topic, and explore ideas on how to approach the yoga practice in a potentially healing and sustainable way.

An important idea to understand, is that health generally cannot be achieved with brute forcing methods, or only intense training. We need to practice from our heart, but how on Earth do we do that?

PAIN AND HEALING

In my teaching I want the student to get maximum benefit from the practices, regardless of age or body type.

Our practices all look different, even though we might be practicing the same set of asanas. In this workshop we will explore some universal features of the practice, regardless of what our practices looks like, that potentially can be an invitation for a process of healing and regeneration.

What types of pain can we feel? Is any pain ever welcomed? When is pain to be avoided at any cost? We will be discussing joint pain, muscle pain, chronic pain among others.

SCHEDULE

8.30 – 10.00 LED 3/4 PRIMARY SERIES – A led ashtanga practice with a few extra instructions for self-adjustments. We will stay for longer than 5 breaths in some poses – please do not rush through the practice. Please note that this long practice is typically not a class for complete beginners in ashtanga yoga. You will get more out of the practice if you are already familiar with the asanas and the vinyasas.

10.30 – 12.30 YOGA AND HEALING – Special class. This is a lecture combined with a few practical exercises. Alex will give you inspiration from the sutras of Patañjali, and make it relevant for your continuing practice.

If you have any current physical pain in your yoga practice, Alex will be offering specific approaches and guidance to your practice personally. We will look at what could be causing the problem, and how to change the approach of the asana. What is the truth of your practice?
